Nathan finds Peter standing over Arthur’s corpse. Peter admits that Sylar did it; there was no other way to end it. Now the formula has to be destroyed. Nathan explains that it’s too late; he’s going to finish what Arthur started. Twenty marines have already been injected with the formula. Peter tries to shoot Nathan, but he can’t, so he knocks him unconscious instead.

Back at Primatech, H.R.G. summons Meredith. Now that Arthur’s dead, Peter will need their help. They’re joined by Angela and Claire, just as the lights flicker off, and bars slam down over the windows. Sylar is back and he’s put Primatech on lockdown. Holed up in the security office, Sylar broadcasts over the PA: tonight, he’s going to prove to them all that they’re monsters, just like him.

H.R.G. hands Claire a shotgun, telling her to protect Angela at all costs. He and Meredith are going after Sylar, who gets to work on Claire, reminding her that the others betrayed her. Angela doubts they can stop Sylar, but Claire is confident she can. There’s a vulnerable spot on the back of her head; if something was jammed in there, her brain would shut down. Sylar must have the same vulnerability.

Matt thinks that Hiro can’t cause any trouble, since he’s still stuck in time on the flag pole. Daphne’s not so sure — if Hiro dies, the past could change the present. Ando, Matt and Daphne proceed to Mohinder’s empty lab, hoping to find him, but no dice. Daphne figures that Mohinder is at Pinehearst and rushes off to get him.

Another entry in Mohinder’s log: time is running out. The infection in his lungs is fatal. Injecting himself with the formula is his only hope. Peter appears to hold Mohinder at gunpoint and announce his intention to destroy the formula. In a sudden whoosh, the EpiPen of formula vanishes out of Mohinder’s hand. Furious, Mohinder attacks Peter, only to be stopped by Flint, who threatens to burn his face off.

Knox offers to help destroy the lab, confusing Peter. Flint explains: if the formula works, then those who already have abilities will no longer be special. Mohinder protests — not only is the formula highly combustible, but Peter is siding with these villains over Nathan, who only wants to do good? Peter begins to destroy the lab, explaining that Nathan isn’t in charge anymore.

Soldier Scott enters Arthur’s office just as Nathan revives. He reports that Tracy stopped the injections, so Scott is the only one who’s received the formula. Scott promises to stop Peter, but Knox snaps his neck in a flash. Smiling, Knox admits that he’s working for Peter, who’s one of the good guys now.

Nathan tells Knox that he’s backed the wrong horse. Peter always winds up losing in the end. Knox is surprised that Nathan hates his brother so much. Is he afraid that Peter will top him? Claiming he’s not afraid of anything, Nathan attacks Knox, but it’s not long before Knox has the upper hand. Just as he’s about to deliver the death blow, Knox freezes and shatters into a million pieces, courtesy of Tracy.

Matt puts his hands on Ando and doubles over, his mind overwhelmed with voices. When he comes around, he explains that it was like he could hear every thought in the city. When Daphne touches Ando, she goes back a few minutes in time. Meanwhile, Claire drags Angela down the hall towards Level 5. When she lets go of Angela for an instant, Sylar steps in to taunt Claire about her allegiance to H.R.G.

In the final episode of the year, “Heroes” will provide two choices for each of the characters in the series, whether they want to do the right or wrong. In the episode called “Duel”, the Petrelli brothers are facing against each other after a battle with their father, Arthur. Nathan makes a move that will have repercussions on the world.

Meanwhile, Sylar holds Claire, Noah, Meredith and Angela hostage at Primatech and a face-off ensues. Elsewhere, Ando, Matt and Daphne continue their attempts rescue Hiro and Dr. Suresh may be their only hope.

“Duel” which is re-titled from “Duality”, will air on Monday, December 15 before the show continues next year. To bridge the gap, a webisode called The Recruit will be posted every Mondays, with the first chapter called “Private Mills” taking over on December 15. The preview for the first one has been released, involving Angela and a marine officer named Rachel Mills.

(Jack Coleman) while Claire (Hayden Panettiere) struggles to survive. First off: the eclipse seen in the pilot episode did NOT activate their powers. I don’t know why the show wants us to believe this. It’s patently untrue. So to hear Peter Petrelli talk about Nathan’s first flight during that last eclipse really irks me, and should irk anyone who cares about long-term continuity. If you recall, the show devoted an entire episode (the seminal “Six Months Ago”) in which they showed how many powers were already exhibiting well before that eclipse. While the last eclipse may have augmented various abilities, it did not create them. Also? There’s an entire generation of superpowered people that were doing their thing well before that eclipse!  We good? Good. Moon and stars above, I need a drink.

All of that continuity critique aside, the impending eclipse both lent an urgency to the proceedings at hand and gave our main cast of characters time to recognize just how much their powers factor into their sense of self. To hear Gabriel say, “We’re just human,” one recognizes that those on both sides of the fence–heroes and villains–see themselves as fundamentally different than their counterparts on this planet. That might sounds like an obvious point to make, but the difference seems to lie not so much in what they can do as much as how their abilities shape their self-identification. These people simply do not know who they are without their powers.

To some, this return to humanity is paralyzing. To yet others, liberating. But the eclipse forces everyone to step outside of themselves in order to evaluate what these powers mean, and what they are truly meant to achieve. Take Parkman, for instance. Without his power, he feels like a hollow shell of doughy man, unable to provide Daphne with any comfort or protection. For her part, Daphne is now the show’s resident John Locke, running away from her crippled past, yet unable to sprint fast enough to avoid the eclipse. Both view themselves as fundamentally flawed as “just human,” unworthy of any type of respect, admiration, or love from each other.

In Claire’s case, her loss of power transformed her from an unkillable entity back into someone’s daughter. That might sound like a step back to some, but provided the necessary bridge to reconnect with her estranged adoptive father. I couldn’t have been the only Heroes fan to see glimpses of “Company Man” in this episode. HRG’s relationship with Claire was one of Season 1’s strongest components, and it’s been sorely wasted over the past two years. I loved watching Claire’s combo agony/elation at realizing she can once again feel something, even if it’s pain. And I loved hearing the words “Claire Bear” again. Yea, I’m a sap. Sue me.

In some cases, the eclipse not only removed powers, but altered moods. How else to explain the Petrelli Brothers’ Fightin’ Hour, or Elle’s sudden “kill ‘em all” attitude towards Sylar? Both came pretty far out of left field, even for Heroes. I know the show likes to choose the dramatic importance of a scene over consistent characterization. But I’m getting whiplash trying to decide if Elle wants to save Gabriel or re-ignite Sylar, or why Nathan’s fraternal relationship with Peter suddenly took a turn for the worse in Haiti. These reactions have nearly nothing to do with what’s come before it, and gives the show the dreaded “we’re totally winging this” vibe thats death to shows like this.

A few other tidbits from tonight’s episode:

1. Not sure why the show kept on upping the gross quotient on Mohinder’s appearance, but by the time he was “birthed” from his webbed cocoon I cursed the heavens for making me look at things that nasty. And just when Dr. D’oh looked normal, he threatened to bring back Maya to the show. The eclipse is an unjust and merciless god.
   
2. Loved the montage in which Arthur’s drawings paralleled events around the globe. Really strong mixture of music and imagery there.
   
3. Put Noah in a room with three other non-superpowered people? Noah emerges victorious. That felt totally and completely right.
   
4. Was I supposed to shout out, “Hey, it’s the Robot Chicken guys!” when Seth Green and Breckin Meyer popped up onscreen? Because I did. Sure, it took me completely out of the show’s universe and called attention to its very artifice, but hey, least it was a cheap gag. So there’s there.
   
5. What does it say about Arthur Petrelli’s status as a criminal mastermind that he couldn’t wait until after the eclipse’s end to start freaking out about the superpower outage? Also? He’s relying on Mohinder! The man’s unwittingly undone two world-ending plots already, Arthur. If anything, you want him working for the good guys. That would almost guarantee your success.
   

While walking with the Petrellis through the jungle, the Haitian casually notes, “”The universe has decided our fate.” I’m not entirely sure this true. If anything, the universe has afforded everyone time to basically stop, inhale, and truly think about the choices to come. These people are not mere puppets; if anything, there heroism comes from facing the inevitable and fighting anyways. After all, Heroes consistently shows how one person can alter the course of future events. While certain things are destined to happen, there are still things not written in stone. And while they may be scribbled upon a sheet of paper, it’s still within the power of the parties involved to change things. Maybe they can’t change them drastically, but even a small amount might be the difference between life and death.

After all, an eclipse covers the majority of the sun, but light still manages to escape along the edges.

We know that Kristen Bell and Zachary Quinto are very good friends. Who knew that their characters would be ‘friends’ too? Elle and Sylar work for Arthur to bring bag-n-tag a prized identity.

When we last saw Elle Bishop in episode 307, she was on her way to Pinehearst to have her abilities removed or put under control. I guess she wishes were granted! She’s back on duty as a “one of us, one of them” agent for the new boss Arthur. And I really thought the girl has cooled down.

There is a story here, and maybe I’m wrong but I’ll speculate about it anyway.

Elle and Sylar work together. But wait! Why does Elle need a gun? She may not have her powers anymore.

But who is Sylar slicing now? Surely it’s not Claire coz he’s already done that. Might it be Elle? Will Sylar instead save Claire? Hm, I don’t know.

Meanwhile, Nathan and Peter go to Haiti and find the Haitian, the only one who can stop their father from destroying the world.

Who are they hiding from? Peter still has no powers here, I assume, since he hasn’t been one to hide from an enemy.

The first half of “Heroes” season three is over and in two weeks to come the show will go back to the roots. The eight episode which is titled “Villains” will see Hiro investigating the defining moments in the pasts of Arthur Petrelli, Sylar and Flint in order to prepare for an eventual showdown with his foes.

Two kinds of promo for the episode which will air on November 10 have been brought forward. It reveals how a father’s lie brings a butterfly effect to the future and how Gabriel aka Sylar came in terms with the demon inside him. The episode will also provide lots of flashback of various heroes and villains.

Third season of “Heroes” is made up of two volumes, “Third Volume: Villains” which will be comprised of 13 episodes, and “Fourth Volume: Fugitives” that contains the remaining twelve. Cast Greg Grunberg dished out to DigitalSpy that they are currently filming the “Fugitives”. On the bridge between the third and fourth, Grunberg said, “At the end of volume three it’s kind of wrapped up but then there’s this huge cliffhanger that leads into volume four.”

Download Heroes: “Villains” for Free

Giving more sneak peeks into the episode 3.07 of “Heroes“, NBC network have let out four clips from the episode titled “Eris Quod Sum”. Compiled into one video player, the footage kicks off with the clip in which Elle talks with Claire about the help she may find at Pinehurst. It then switches to the scene when Peter wakes up, finds himself handcuffed to a bed and learns that Arthur has taken his abilities.

The third clip brings Arthur face-to-face with Mohinder. Discovering for the first time that Arthur has lied about his death, Mohinder questions how Arthur can give out such lie and talks about what he wants to achieve with Maya. In the last clip, which is the shortest of all, it is previewed that Tracey and Nathan confront Mohinder about him eliminating their abilities and using them for his experiment to save Maya.

Marking the end of season 3’s first half, this forthcoming episode will be aired on Monday, October 27, on 9/8c. It stars Kristen Bell, Hayden Panettiere, Ali Larter, Masi Oka, Adrian Pasdar, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Dania Ramirez and Milo Ventimiglia among others.
